The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographers gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see virtually on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meet up, we'll review the basic camera settings. We'll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. We will be taking a walk along the river to capture natural scenes and heading into the city centre taking our 50mm to the streets. This meet will be at a reasonably swift pace where we can 'run and gun' through quick observation and decisive moments. There will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

In this meetup we will capture the light-trails of cars and other vehicles in motion set against the panorama of static architecture in the fading evening light and dark. For this class you will need a tripod and a zoom or a wide-angle lens but you can still get creative results with any lens. The exposure and composition within the image are the important areas to consider. A reflective jacket or high-visibility clothing is advisable for safety on the street. We will not be using any form of flash for driver safety on the roads.
